Candice M. Christie

Original Watercolor and Mixed Media

Candice was raised in Juneau, Alaska; a community nestled between rugged mountains and the sea. Living most of her life in a rainforest has greatly influenced her color palette and the subjects she feels the desire to paint.

Candice majored in art in college. She has worked in fiber, pottery, and painting. Since 1996 she has taken numerous watercolor workshops with well-known artists such as Jean Grastorf, Karlyn Holman, Barbara Nechis and Carla O'Conner. In the past several years, Candice has been working mainly with acrylics and collage. She considers herself a Mixed Media Artist.

Candice has shown her work in individual and group shows both in Alaska and the state of Washington. She has received numerous awards, both in watercolor and mixed media. Her paintings are in many private collections in the Northwest.

Artist's Statement

My work is non-objective collage inspired by the color and texture of the world around me. Combining fluid acrylics, inks and rice papers with the many acrylic mediums available, I achieve the vivid color that I desire and the textures I love. Living most of my life in Southeast Alaska has definitely influenced my color palette. I find I’m drawn to warm tones, and high key color. Adding gold and copper foils increases the warmth of my paintings. Painting occupies my mind constantly. My goals are to never stop exploring and growing as an artist and to share my journey with others.
