Connie Buckey
Watercolor, oil and acrylic.
Connie began painting in 1994, while living in Friday Harbor, Washington. Many excellent watercolor artists lived and taught on the island, so she began her studies in watercolor. Other well-known artists often visited the island to conduct painting workshops and she took advantage of the opportunities to study with them. She also joined an artists' co-op - showing, working and selling her art in their gallery. In 1997 she moved to Bellingham, where she began working in acrylic and then oil, first studying from library instruction books, then progressing to art workshops in Seattle, Coupeville, Canada and Bellingham. She is a member of local art guilds, continues to attend painting workshops and, while travelling, sketches and takes photos as reference for paintings to be completed in her home studio.
Artist's Statement
Even though I was not able to seriously study painting until 1994, art has always been a part of my life - ever since age two, when I managed to get my hands on my brother's crayons. I was hooked. All through my school years I took every art class offered, won scholarships to summer art workshops and planned a career in commercial art as a beginning - with fine art as my long term goal. These plans became sidetracked by marriage, raising a family and various full-time jobs. In 1994, I was finally able to get back to seriously studying painting. It has become a very important part of my life and I know will continue to be.
